“With angora’s popularity riding high, this fuzzy three piece set will bring smiles to any girl’s face. The hat is capable of infinate variety in shape and angle according to her whim or style. There’s just enough pattern in the stitch to lend distinction, but it’s not a pattern that makes work for the knitting. All in all it makes a grand gift - for someone else - or for yourself. ”
Yarn Suggestion: Bouton D’or in color 050 “Blanc”.
Needle Size: Please note that needles are UK sizes. I believe they convert to a size 1 & 2 US needles.

so glad you have a blog on vintage knitting patterns. I do collect vintage patterns too esp. from 60s and 70s, although I still do not have the time to knit from those magazines yet. I’d like to know if you could advise on the needle sizes in the vintage books? Are they in UK measurements or do they have another type of list?

Marjorie,
I’d be happy to post about needle sizes soon. In short, most I’ve found are UK or US sizes.
Reference this list:

I do have one book that mentions steel knitting needles and the sizes are off. I’m not sure how long that sizing existed or if it was just for this one companies needles.
Soon I hope to buy vintage needle cards off ebay so I can get to the bottom of this. I’ve seen ones by “Beehive” and “Columbia” brands.
I have some Vogue Knitting magazines from the 60’s-70’s. I love the mod dresses and squarish cardigans from them. 70’s also has some great chunky knits!

It’s refreshing to find someone else with an appreciation for these sweaters. Some of the patterns that I’ve looked at recently do not fit the body in the same flattering manner as the patterns from the 1940s and thus show the body to it’s best advantage. I’ve been trolling the internet for Vintage patterns and hope to find more…of course..,the issue of knitting the sweaters remains…none of the patterns I’ve seen are very difficult or time consuming…those “Sweater Sets” as they were called are really universal in one’s wardrobe and they are suitable for most office environments…I hate to buy clothes..I hate getting dressed up…these are perfect for the sweater you wear with a nice (almost dressy) pair of slacks..

Hi,
I have knitted the angora hat, but I don’t know how to put it together. I was wondering if you could show me how to do so. It is such a pretty design! This hat will be very useful during the cold season. And thank you for sharing the patterns with us.
